Las Mascaradas are a typical Costa Rican tradition celebrated in October every year. This “parade” consists of colorful costumes and masks in which the people of the town hold a parade dressing in typical outfits and walking in and out through the colorful fabrics embracing the stilts. The Costa Ricans dance to the Cimarrona, the traditional music of Costa Rica filling the air with a lively spirit. Another characteristic of this traditional celebration are the oversized hands and heads which often scare the children, but it is all in great fun.
