There are many things going on in Costa Rica right now, but one of the most tragic things was the landslide in Cambronero. On September 19, at 4:10pm, on the side of a mountain in Cambronero, Alajuela there was a horrible landslide caused by heavy rainfall. There were some cars on the road during the landslide, and they got pushed by the landslide. They hit a double decker bus and motorcycle, and they both dropped 75 meters down the mountain, and ended up by a river at the bottom. Nine people on the bus died, as well as the motorcyclist, and 55 people from the bus were found and rescued. That was not everyone though. A passenger on the bus said, “I think the river swept people away”.

Although it is really tragic that 10 people died, they were not the only ones affected by this incident. Over 1700 people lived by where the landslide happened, and had to evacuate. Most people evacuated to 48 shelters across Costa Rica’s Pacific regions. Electrical and potable water issues also occurred to over 80,000 people, primarily in the Chorotega Region, Buenos Aires, San Isidro (Perez Zeledón), Ciudad Neily and Coto Brus. Because of the heavy rain, other landslides occurred, forcing 26 spots on roads to close.
